I am a Professor in the Department of Education Studies and Associate Dean of the Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, San Diego. I received my B.A. from UCSD and my Ph.D. in Education from the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences. My goals are to improve policy and practice in education and advance knowledge about educational change. My research focuses primarily on K-12 educational reform and policy, particularly with regard to issues of equity and the professional lives of educators. Across my studies, I use qualitative research methods in order to provide a detailed examination of school practices and of educators’ and students’ experiences with educational change. At UCSD, I teach courses on educational change and on qualitative research methods. In addition to my research and teaching activities, I engage in collaborative work with education practitioners and policymakers across the globe who share my passion for improving schooling for all students.
